Biography

Esther López Ávila is a seasoned Intellectual Property expert with over 15 years of experience in patents and industrial property. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from Universidad Iberoamericana (Mexico City) and a Master’s degree in Intellectual and Industrial Property (Magister Lvcentinvs) from the University of Alicante, Spain.

Her professional training includes specialized programs at the Spanish Patent and Trademark Office, the European Patent Office, and the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). She began her career as a process engineer before transitioning into IP, serving for several years as a substantive examiner at the Mexican Institute of Industrial Property (IMPI), where she also represented Mexico at the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).

Esther has held leadership roles in several prominent law firms, heading patent departments and advising clients on patent prosecution, strategy, enforcement, and technology transfer across sectors such as chemical, pharmaceutical, media, and energy. She is currently a partner at PINN, a boutique IP firm in Mexico City, and also serves as Of Counsel at CAYPE Abogados.

Committed to education and innovation, Esther collaborates with academic institutions and research centers by providing lectures, technical opinions, training workshops, and consulting services. Since 2013, she has also served as a judge and evaluator for the National Event of Technological Innovation (ENEIT), organized by TecNM.
